On February 24th, 2026 Iowa State University will be hosting a FREE workshop on using Slurm in an HPC environment. Participants will be given access to ISU's own HPC cluster Nova. This workshop is an intermediate workshop and knowledge of command line and Linux is necessary for participant's success. The Workshop description is as follows:
"This is an intermediate course on Slurm job management and optimization. Slurm lets you efficiently schedule and manage computational jobs on high-performance computing clusters. In this workshop you will learn how to benchmark and measure job efficiency using `seff`, parallelization techniques including GNU Parallel and job arrays, best practices for resource estimation, and how to scale from processing a handful of samples to thousands without overwhelming the scheduler. This workshop is perfect for anyone looking to move beyond basic job submission to mastering scalable, efficient workflows on shared computing resources."
Participants will need to bring their own personal laptop. If one is not available one can be borrowed from https://www.lib.iastate.edu/find-borrow-request/tech-lending/laptop-and-equipment-checkout
